Tangerine Dream er en elektronisk rockgruppe, der blev dannet i Berlin, den 29. september 1967. Siden da, har adskillige medlemmer været inde og præge Edgar Froeses hjertebarn. Edgar Froese (f. 6. juni 1944) er altså det eneste medlem siden begyndelsen, og han har den endelige beslutning, når det kommer til det musikalske udfald.
Tangerine Dream er et tysk band, der har været en essentiel inspiration på den elektroniske scenes indtog i rockverdenen. Deres omfattende diskografi er som at slå op i en telefonbog.
Gruppen havde sine største successer i 1970erne især med gruppemedlemmerne (udover Froese) Peter Baumann og Chris Franke. Musikken var først i 70erne eksperimental præget med bl.a albummerne "Electronic Meditation" (1970), "Zeit" (1972) og "Phaedra" (1974). Senere i årtiet blev musikken mere melodisk og tog en mere kommerciel drejning. Fra den periode kan især nævnes albummerne "Stratosfear" (1976), "Force Majeure" (1979) og "Tangram" (1980).
Tangerine Dream har lavet adskillige soundtracks til forskellige film, og gruppen har været inspiration for flere moderne filmkomponister. I forbindelse med udgivelsen af soundtracket "Sorcerer" (1977) udtalte insruktøren William Friedkin, at hvis han havde kendt til Tangerine Dream tidligere, skulle de have lavet musikken til hans berømte gyser "Exorcisten." Filmmusikken hertil er Mike Oldfields "Tubular Bells."
Gruppen fortsatte med at indspille plader op igennem 1980erne, 1990erne og 2000erne med skiftende besætninger og er stadig aktive.Tangerine Dream har aldrig givet koncerter i Skandinavien. Dette skyldes ifølge Edgar Froese manglende, eller utilstrækkelige tilbud fra bookingbureauer på disse kanter. Medieeksponeringen har været tilsvarende svigtende overfor Tangerine Dream i Danmark. Bandet har aldrig været omtalt i eksempelvis Gaffa, i dette blads 25 årige eksistens. Kun Highfidelity har enkelte gange anmeldt bandet.
Tangerine Dream is an electronic rock band, formed in Berlin, 29 September 1967. Since then, several members touched and influenced Edgar Froese baby. Edgar Froese (born June 6, 1944) is thus the only member from the beginning, and he has the final decision when it comes to the musical outcome. Tangerine Dream is a German band that has been an essential inspiration on the electronic scene captured in the rock world. Their extensive discography is like to look up a phone book. The group had its greatest successes in the 1970s, especially with group members (besides Froese) Peter Baumann, Chris Franke. The music was only in the 70 experimentally characterized by particular albums "Electronic Meditation" (1970), "Zeit" (1972) and "Phaedra" (1974). Later in the decade, the music became more melodic and took a more commercial slant.
From the period are mainly the albums "Stratosfear" (1976), "Force Majeure". (1979) and "Tangram" (1980). Tangerine Dream have made several soundtracks for various films, and the group has been the inspiration for several modern film composers. In connection with the release of the soundtrack "Sorcerer" (1977) stated insruktøren William Friedkin that if he had known about Tangerine Dream earlier, they should have done the music for his famous thriller "Exorcist". Film music for this is Mike Oldfields "Tubular Bells". The group continued to record the plates up through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000erne with changing crews and are still active. Tangerine Dream has never given concerts in Scandinavia. This is because according to Edgar Froese missing or inadequate offers from booking agencies in these parts. Media exposure has been a corresponding failure to Tangerine Dream in Denmark. The band has never been featured in such Gaffa, in this magazine's 25 year existence. Only Highfidelity have occasionally reported the band.
